Our environmental approach and local roots

Understanding our environmental approach

  • We believe that we should reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. Château de Larunque is therefore certified under the EU Ecolabel for tourist accommodation.
  • The ""EU Ecolabel and Sustainable Territory Guide"" provides a concise explanation of why and how we take action.
  • The ""Social and Environmental Guide"" describes our approach in detail.

Carbon impact of travel

  • We calculate our carbon footprint every year, including the carbon impact of our guests' travel. We can provide you with this information.
  • Where possible, we encourage walking, cycling and public transport. The ""Château de Larunque Tourist Guide"" and ""Château de Larunque Tourist Map"" suggest a number of low-carbon travel options and activities.
  • We encourage travel by electric car by providing a reinforced 3 kW socket free of charge and an 11 kW charging point charged at cost

Library & planetary boundaries

  • A selection of books, graphic novels and publications on environmental issues is available.
  • The ""Guide to Publications on Planetary Boundaries"" will help you choose from these resources.

Keeping cool in hot weather

  • We favour passive measures to keep the château cool in hot weather: shade and evapotranspiration from vegetation, thick walls with high thermal inertia, insulation, shading of windows and careful ventilation.
  • During periods of hot weather, please air the rooms early in the morning and late in the evening, and keep windows, shutters and curtains closed during the day, particularly on the garden side.
  • Fans are available in some bedrooms.

Château de Larunque local guide

  • A map and detailed tourist guide are available. They cover towns and villages, beaches, activities, walks, cycle routes, shops, pharmacies, restaurants, local producers, transport and many ideas for exploring the area.
  • Please feel free to add to the guide any places you visit that are not yet included and that you would recommend.

Local and historical roots

  • We have retraced the history of Château de Larunque in a booklet entitled ""The Story of Château de Larunque"", which is available for you to read.
  •

Kitchen & utility room

Facilities

  • The kitchen includes two ovens, a microwave oven, a five-zone induction hob, an extractor hood, a bean-to-cup espresso machine, a dishwasher, a refrigerator and a configurable fridge-freezer.
  • The utility room contains two washing machines, a tumble dryer, a clothes airer, an ironing board and an iron.

Configurable fridge / freezer

  • The large appliance can be configured to suit your needs as 3 refrigerator compartments + 1 freezer compartment, or 2 refrigerator compartments + 2 freezer compartments.

Hob

  • To avoid scratching the hob, never use the abrasive side of a sponge to clean it.

Dishwasher

  • EU Ecolabel dishwasher tablets are provided. Please follow the loading and operating instructions.
  • Please clean the filter once a day with washing-up liquid and hot water.

Filtered water & fats

  • A tap providing water filtered through activated carbon and ceramic is available at the sink.
  • Fats and grease must not be poured down the sink.

Waste sorting

  • Dedicated containers are provided in the kitchen for glass, paper/cardboard, plastic and metal packaging, compostable waste, oils and fats, and general household waste. Please follow the labels on each container.
  • A separate container is also provided for waste requiring specialist disposal, such as batteries, light bulbs and small items of broken crockery. Outdoor recycling bins are available for emptying full indoor containers.
  • The general household waste bin is 400 m beyond Banzaï Paintball.
  • Cooking oils and grease must never be poured down the sink; the grease container is provided for this purpose.
  •
  • Pool, spa & sauna

Indoor pool

  • The indoor pool is heated. Please replace the cover after use and always overnight to retain the water temperature and limit humidity.
  • For good ventilation, please leave one French window open unless there is a safety concern.
  • Children remain under the responsibility of the adults accompanying them. Access to the pool must remain secure and the designated doors kept closed.
  • Please follow the hygiene rules displayed by the pool, particularly those concerning hair and clean feet.

Spa

  • The spa is designed for 2 people. Please keep the settings unchanged and replace the insulating blocks and cover after use.
  • If the settings are accidentally changed, particularly if the hot tub is switched to the unheated Sleep mode (""SL""), press Temperature and then immediately press Light. The setting cycles from Sleep (""SL"") to Standard (""St"") and then Eco (""Ec""). In summer, Eco mode (""Ec"") should be used to prevent the water temperature from rising too far above the set temperature.

Sauna

  • The sauna takes 15 to 20 minutes to heat up. Please switch it off as soon as you have finished using it.
  • Water should be poured sparingly and only onto the hot stones.
  • Please read the operating instructions carefully, particularly those relating to the delayed-start timer.
  •

Terrace, grounds & leisure

Plancha grill

  • The plancha grill is available for your use. Remember to turn on the gas before use and turn it off afterwards. If the gas does not reach the plancha after opening the supply, press the small button beneath the gas bottle regulator.
  • After use, absorb the grease with newspaper and dispose of it in the bin. Then clean the cooking plate as instructed, using the products provided (vinegar water and newspaper), without using ice cubes. Please also empty the grease collection tray into the grease container in the kitchen.

Sports & leisure

  • The tennis court, pétanque court, badminton net and table tennis table are available for your use.
  • Sports equipment is stored in the cupboard in the entrance hall.
  • Please put the equipment away after use. Tennis rackets must not be used in the rain or with wet balls.

Board games

  • A large selection of board games, organised by age group, is available. Please return every piece, card and die to the correct game and put the game back in its place.
  • Please note any incomplete games on the form provided (in the library beneath the games), and place any pieces whose game you cannot identify in the ""mystery box"".

Grounds & biodiversity

  • The grounds are managed to preserve biodiversity: some areas are mown later in the season and no weedkiller is used.
  • You may occasionally see roe deer and other wildlife on the estate.
  • In summer, a colony of bats roosts in the basement. They naturally help control insect populations but may leave a few droppings on the terrace. Please sweep the terrace in the morning if necessary. If a bat ventures into a room or bedroom, simply open a window and it will usually find its way out quickly.

Bedrooms, bathrooms & toilets

Bedrooms

  • Please switch off the lights when leaving a bedroom and turn down the heating when appropriate.
  • The bedrooms, like the rest of the château, are of course non-smoking.
  • Storage cupboards are available in each bedroom for your belongings.
  • Fans are available in some bedrooms.
  • In the attic bedrooms, please remember to close the roof windows if it rains.
  • During periods of hot weather, please air the rooms early in the morning and late in the evening, and keep windows, shutters and curtains closed during the day, particularly on the garden side.

Showers & water

  • Water is a precious resource. Showers and washbasins are fitted with flow-reducing devices. Shower timers are provided to encourage shorter showers.
  • Please let us know about any leaks.

Toilets

  • Please use the toilet paper provided wherever possible, as it is suitable for the septic tank.
  • Never flush wipes or any other waste down the toilet.
  • Where the toilet has a dual-flush mechanism, please use the appropriate button.

Heated towel rails

  • Please switch off electric heated towel rails after use if you have turned them on.
